Tagamet & Benadryl used to shrink EPULI (gum growths)One of my dogs developed multiple Epulis or growths around her gums. There were 5 to 6 on both sides of her mouth with some being about 1.5 inches in diameter.I discovered this when I saw her begin bleeding from her mouth, with blood on the floor, while she was eating. One growth was about 3 inches long and shaped like a carrot. I think she must have bitten the end of it.She cannot be anesthetized. So, I started her on the Tagamet and Benadryl hoping for the best. Yesterday, I looked at her face and thought her muzzle wasn't as full as it has been. It's been 3 weeks on the meds. When I looked in her mouth and the growths are all gone!I never thought this would work for growths in their mouths. It's sure easier than surgery and then the growths come back anyway. This doesn't work on the gums when they grow over their teeth, but it sure worked on her multiple cyst-like growths.This is the same treatment I use to shrink mast cell tumors.If your dog is on any medication, you should always read the PreCautions sheet. Some meds cannot be combined with Tagamet (Cimetidine). updated 7/6/08.____________________________________________________________________ Dose for growths & epuli in a 55-75 lb. boxer:1 tab 200 mg. Tagamet (Cimetidine) and1 tab 25 mg. Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) caplettwice a day for 3 weeks.Preventative Therapy in a 55-75 lb. boxer:1 tab Tagamet and1 tab Benadryl caplettwice a day for 2 weeks.
