Bavaria's Simply Irresistible

It is with great sadness that I announce that my Heidi “Bavaria’s Simply Irresistible” succumbed to cancer on Thursday morning, December 30th.  She fought a valiant battle and, with 2 surgeries and the Tagamet therapy, shrunk 5 large mast cell stage 3 body tumors and had no additional tumor sites appear. 

The tumor in the middle of her face had died and fallen out which left a hole.  We had surgery done to close it, however, a bad infection ensued which didn’t clear up with a multitude of antibiotics.  On Thursday morning, my vet aspirated the site and found mast cells.  As the procedure was performed, I felt both of her lymph nodes under her neck had swollen to 1” size lumps.  These had grown in the past couple of days.  The odor from her face was horrendous and she was in pain.

She was a show bitch that I had taken her back December 2003 from a co-owner after they put her in their fenced yard with a 4 ft. fence.  She escaped and ran loose for 2 days.  She had been attacked by dogs and had 8 large bite wounds.  All the tumors grew in the bite sites.
 
After she recovered from her injuries, and her trauma of having another dog behind her, I showed her in June and July.  She acquired 2 points quickly and I believe would have finished.
 
I laid next to her and hugged her as she was put to sleep and out of her misery.  My beautiful girl was only 3.5 years old.  I take comfort in knowing that she thrived so much when I got her back and I did have a wonderful year with her.  She couldn't have been loved any more.  She slept in bed with me every night.
